What is PVC and what is its function
PVC, also known as polyvinyl chloride, is a widely used plastic material.
PVC is a polymer compound made from vinyl chloride monomer through polymerization reaction. This material is used in both hard and soft forms. Hard PVC is used for building pipes, doors and windows, while soft PVC is used for pipes, cable insulation, flooring, signage, inflatable products, etc. PVC materials usually require the addition of plasticizers to increase their softness and elasticity.
PVC has good corrosion resistance, non flammability, high strength, and resistance to climate change, as well as strong resistance to oxidants, reducing agents, and strong acids. However, concentrated oxidizing acids such as concentrated sulfuric acid or concentrated nitric acid may corrode PVC and are not suitable for contact with aromatic and chlorinated hydrocarbons.
It should be noted that PVC may add some plasticizers and other additives to enhance its performance during the manufacturing process, which may be harmful to human health. Therefore, PVC materials are generally not used for storing food and drugs.
